Baseball Betting: Pirates vs. Reds As we creep up on the 60-game mark in the big leagues, we thought it would be a good time to get a lay of the land and see who’s doing what as we head into June.

We’ve had both the expected and the unexpected through the first part of the season.

In the expected category, the Minnesota Twins are currently atop the American League Central and the Philadelphia Phillies, who took last year’s National League pennant, are leading the NL East.

In the unexpected category, surf over to the NL Central, where we find the Cincinnati Reds currently leading the division, a half-game up on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Online sportsbooks currently have Cincy as a +300 favorite to take the division, +1400 to take the NL pennant, and +2500 to win the World Series.

So far in 2010, they have a record of 27-20 overall, 16-10 at home and 11-10 on the road. In their last 20 games the Reds have gone 14-6 straight up.

Cincinnati was a favorite for the sports betting public on Wednesday, as they played Game 3 in a series vs. the Pirates. By the time the first pitch was thrown the Reds were -175 favorites at most sportsbooks, with SPORTSBETTING.com reporting 80% of the action on that matchup tilted to the Reds. Bettors got a nice payday when Cincy shutout Pittsburgh 4-0.

They play the fourth and final game of the current series today. This time the Reds are even bigger favorites, currently sitting at -200 with a Total at 8.5. Bettors are again getting behind Cincy, with early betting action splitting 75% Reds money and only 25% looking for an upset by backing the Pirates.

Cincinnati bettors haven’t been in the red often the last 20 times they’ve bet on their team against the Pirates, as the Reds are 15-5 SU in that situation. In the Reds’ last 11 home games against Pittsburgh, they are 9-2 SU.

Cincinnati will start Johnny Cueto and in his last 10 starts against the Pirates, the Reds have gone 7-3 SU.

Over/Under bettors take note, as the last 10 times Cueto has faced Pittsburgh, there have been 8 Overs and 2 Unders.

San Diego:

After finishing 2009 in fourth place in the NL West, the San Diego Padres have made some big gains, currently leading the division by 1.5-games over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bettors are still taking some time to warm up to them, something you can see by the futures odds numbers, as they are listed at +500 to win the division, +2500 to win the pennant, and +4000 to take the World Series.

At 27-18 on the season, the Padres are 13-9 at home and 14-9 on the road.

They are currently in the midst of a three-gamer with the St. Louis Cardinals and go into tonight’s Game 2 listed as a -130 favorite with a low Total at 7.

Despite being favored, the Padres haven’t been too solid in their last 20 games against the St. Louis Cardinals, as they are 5-15 SU and in their last 13 games vs. St. Louis, they are only 2-11 SU.

Wade Leblanc starts for San Diego and in his last eight starts the Padres have gone 6-2 SU.

Enjoy the games.
