The Orlando Magic earned a stay of execution on Monday night, not only hanging with the Celtics on their homecourt, but managing to pull off an overtime win. Online sportsbooks had the Magic as a 7-point underdog in that matchup, while the total of 188 pushed for Over/Under bettors.
Going into Game 5 at the Amway Arena in Orlando, the Magic are listed at -4 and the Total is set at 186.
“We want to make this a series and win this series,” Magic Center Dwight Howard told the Associated Press.
“We all have to believe that. I told the guys before the game, 'Put out all disbelief, anxiety and fear. We just got to keep playing.”
How have the Magic performed for the sports betting public lately? Pretty good actually, unless you’ve been on them the last four games. Orlando is 15-5 against the spread the last 20 times they hit the floor, paying off nicely for their backers… but against Boston, they have had some problems. They have only covered once in their last four starts.
Over/Under bettors might want to take note, as the Magic have a significant “Under” trend in their last 11 games, recording 2 Overs, 8 Unders, and a Push. Further to that, in the last 20 head-to-head meetings between these two teams, they have produced 15 Unders, 4 Overs and 1 Push.
Bettors who have played the Under in Orlando’s last 14 home games against the Celtics have also benefited as there have only been 3 Overs and 11 Unders.
SPORTSBETTING.com currently has the total set at 186. Sportsbook manager Brian Taylor stated earlier today that, “the Under has been getting action on this one, as approximately 70% of the volume has been tipped to the Under.”
However, the Magic haven’t been a profitable play in their last nine games hosting Boston, as they are only 2-7 ATS.
Breaking down this matchup even further, let’s look at how Orlando has reacted when listed as 4-point favorites or less. The last 10 times the Magic have been in this situation, they have been very solid, going 9-1 ATS (and 10-0 straight up).
Over on the other bench, the Boston Celtics are looking to make another trip to the NBA Final after successfully winning a title in 2008.
In the Celtics’ last eight games when listed as an underdog, they are 6-2 SU and ATS and they are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five in that situation.
The betting action has been steady at the sportsbooks on this tilt, with early reports having the action tilted to the Celtics, with 63% of the volume on Boston.
Enjoy the game.
