This week one of the best games on the schedule is the game between Michigan and Michigan State. This series has been watered down of late, since Michigan has struggled in recent years. With the latest resurgence under new coach Brady Hoke, the Wolverines enter this game without a loss.
This game is my college football lock of the week for week seven.
The line for this game opened up at Michigan State -3 and it has slowly started to move in favor of the road team. In fact the betting consensus shows that 71% of the incoming money at offshore sportsbooks is on the Wolverines. This is due to the fact that the national media is starting to cover Michigan in all of their featured stories.
Michigan State is a Lock Against Michigan
This is good news for Michigan State backers. This Spartans team is a very good team that has flown under the radar this season. They are 4-1 with the one loss coming at South Bend against Notre Dame. Since this game was nationally televised, it will be the last thing that will stick into the minds of bettors.
The Spartans enter this game off a bye, giving them extra time to prepare for this game. They have a defense that plays very well and gets little recognition. In their latest effort they nearly shut out Ohio State in Columbus. They have experience under center with Kirk Cousins and he will be calm under pressure in a big game like this one.
Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is a talented athlete, but he is not a polished passer just yet. If the run is not an option and he is forced to pass, he is prone to turning over the ball. The sports betting trends give us yet another reason to lay the small number in this rivalry game.
The Wolverines are 7-20 against the spread (ATS) against a team with a winning record, 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, and 2-5 ATS in the last seven games as an underdog. Michigan needed a second half come back to beat Northwestern on the road and East Lansing will be much more intimidating.
The Spartans are 6-2 ATS against a team with a winning record and the favorite in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Wolverines will get their first loss on the season and the Spartans will win by double digits in my college football lock of the week.
