College Football on ESPN kicks off today, Tuesday, as once again college football fans will not have to wait to see football. This week the Sun Belt conference once again takes center stage as Troy takes on Florida International.
The college football odds for this game opened up as Florida International as 6.5 point favorites. Don't be surprised if this number goes over and jumps the key number of seven, as 81% of the early betting action is coming in at FIU. This is most likely due to the fact that FIU played last Tuesday night and the public had a chance to watch them in action.
Although the FIU Golden Panthers lost 34-16, the public often does not know the smaller teams and instead of doing research they will just go off of what they saw the previous week. Troy is still a decent team, although they have fallen on hard times. Troy is a regular at the top of the standings in the Sun Belt conference, but are off to a slow start at just 2-4 on the season.
That slow start could be dismissed when you realize that the Troy Trojans have played a pretty intimidating schedule that includes playing two top ranked BCS teams. The Trojans are still loaded with talent and have the sports betting trends to back them up in this contest.
The road team in this series is 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last six meetings, so home field advantage is not that significant. The Trojans are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0, and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0.
The Golden Panthers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a home favorite, 0-6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss, and 0-4 ATS in the last four games overall.
The Golden Panthers showed that late in the game they have a tendency to fall apart and that could lead to the backdoor cover or the outright loss to the Trojans.
