Sportingbet's generous offer to refund all fallers at Haydock and Ascot on Saturday ended with a worst case scenario for the online bookie as punters favourite Kauto Star and Sam Thomas parted company at the last fence in the Betfair Lancashire Chase.
Sportingbet's UK Promotions manager Chris Graham said 'Kauto is probably the most popular horse in training, and at such a short price, it was definitely one we didn't want to be refunding. To be fair to Sam Thomas and the horse it was more of a slip than a fall but we'll be refunding anyway. It won't stop us offering attractive promotions in the future."
In the last month Sportingbet has refunded bets on more than 50 fallers at the weekend meetings from Wincanton, Sandown, Ascot, Wetherby and all 3 days of Cheltenham's Open Meeting.
Expensive stuff for this popular European bookie.
