The Minnesota Timberwolves have long been considered a doormat in the NBA. Although several superstars like Kevin Garnett have worn the Timberwolves uniform, the results have always been the same. The Wolves have failed to make noise in the NBA and are a mainstay in the annual NBA lottery.
But all of that is about to change.
The 2012 version of the Timberwolves is more impressive and they have now become legitimate contenders in the Western Conference. That might be hard to believe considering that the Wolves are currently in last place in the Northwest standings. But look deeper into things and you will see that the Wolves have a chance to make a run at the West title.
The best team in the Western Conference is the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Wolves are just seven games behind the best team which is not hard to make up. Several teams above the Wolves in the standings to include Utah and Denver are playing over their heads and have had a home heavy schedule up to this point.
The Wolves already have signature wins against some of the best teams in the Western Conference to include San Antonio, Dallas, and the Clippers. In fact they beat Dallas and San Antonio twice. In the lone game against the Thunder the Wolves lost by just four points and that is just the start of things.
The Wolves rank above such great teams like the Lakers and the Bulls in points per game. The Wolves are fifth in the league in rebounding and only the Lakers and the Rockets are better in the West.
Kevin Love is a monster inside and out and the addition of point guard Ricky Rubio has made several players better by giving them a chance to knock down open shots. Michael Beasley is embracing his role with the team and the result is a better team with increasing chemistry.
Several online sportsbooks have great NBA future odds on the Wolves to win the west. In fact right now the Wolves are listed at 75 to 1 to win the west and those odds are too good to pass up.
This team is underrated and is being over looked but when the season is winding down the Wolves will have a shot at winning the west and stunning the world.
