NBA players travel a lot during the regular season and that doesn’t seem to be changing in the off-season as a lot of players are switching zip codes.
Remember how Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant and then-Houston Rocket Ron Artest were giving each other the stink eye during the playoffs?
Well, the two will be teammates this coming season, as the Lakers signed Artest on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, when you are at the top, everyone tries to loot your players and the Lakers lost SF Trevor Ariza, who has or will sign with those same Houston Rockets.
The team is attempting to bring Lamar Odom back into the fold but he could leave and as it stands, the Los Angeles Lakers are listed as the odds-on faves, at +225, to repeat as NBA champions.
What about the team that the Lakers played in the final?
The Orlando Magic managed to add Vince Carter from the New Jersey Nets but they are set to lose a number of key players that contributed to their playoff run.
Hedo Turkoglu, Courtney Lee and Rafer Alston have played their last games with the team and online sportsbooks have the team listed at +900 to do what they couldn’t this year -- win an NBA title.
With LeBron James possibly becoming a free agent in 2010, the Cleveland Cavaliers are probably taking the, “NBA championship or bust” motto -- they brought in Shaquille O’Neal and are hoping that Shaq can help LeBron win a title next year.
The Cavs, with Shaq and LeBron in tow, are listed at +275 at SPORTSBETTING.com to win next season’s NBA championship.
The San Antonio Spurs traded Kurt Thomas, Bruce Bowen and Fabricio Oberto to the Milwaukee Bucks for Richard Jefferson and also added F/C Antonio McDyess from the Detroit Pistons.
Still the Spurs are listed at +1400 to win it all next season.
After suffering a 33-49 season, the Toronto Raptors will add the services of former Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu and will see former first-rounder Andrea Bargnani returning to the team but Toronto still sees itself listed as a +10,000 longshot to win the NBA championship next season.
The Dallas Mavericks will be bringing back PG Jason Kidd and are said to be on the verge of pulling off a deal that would bring Shawn Marion from the Toronto Raptors.
The Mavs are currently listed at +5000 to win next season’s NBA title.
A lot of big names have changed addresses and there could be more by the time the summer’s through.
