Over/Under betting odds were higher than normal last Sunday following the record high scoring average (52.8 points) from Week 7, but as the Houston Texans last drive sputtered against Indianapolis on Monday night, the final counts were in: 5 overs and 8 unders
It backed up the results from 2009 and this is starting to look like more than just a betting trend. Last season the three highest percentage weeks for "Over" betting were followed by a drop-off of 2.67 overs per week. Week 7's results push the average to nearly 3.5.
Look for the high scoring theme from the first six weeks to get back on track in Week 9.
Over/Under Play of the Week:
We like Chicago and Buffalo to go "Over" this weekend. Sportsbooks have the Total currently listed at 41 for this indoor matchup being played in Toronto, Canada
PRIDE, CHEMISTRY ONLY CASUALTIES FOR REDSKINS
Mike Shanahan's unusual decision to bring Rex Grossman in to run the Redskins' two-minute offense against Detroit has created a rift in the locker room and raised questions about Donovan McNabb's health and conditioning.
Maybe after some of the damage Washington has dished to its unwilling opponents this season it's about time the tables turned. Look at the list of injuries the Redskins defense has caused to key players this season:
- Week 2, ankle injury to Texans WR Andre Johnson that, as of Monday vs. the Colts, still looks to be bothering him
- Week 3, Rams RB Steven Jackson strained his groin versus the Redskins
- Week 4, Eagles QB Michael Vick (ribs), RB LeSean McCoy (ribs) and CB Asante Samuel (concussion) all left the game with injuries
- Week 5, Packers TE Jermichael Finley (knee) was lost for the year, LB Clay Matthews pulled his hamstring and QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion
- Week 6, Colts TE Dallas Clark (wrist), WR Austin Collie (thumb) and RB Joseph Addai (shoulder) made it two-straight triple-headers
- Week 7. Chicago LB Lance Briggs (ankle) only lasted one quarter but to be fair, Briggs had missed practice time in the week leading up to the game. Still, that is a Pro Bowl roster worth of injuries!
NON-CON HOT SPOT
Early this season underdogs were dominant winners in nearly every angle from home/away to divisional and inter-Conference matchups.
Heading into Week 8 the numbers showed that non-conference favorites had started to make up a little ground (17-12 SU and 12-14-3 ATS) and there were five games hanging in the balance.
Results were "favorable" for the favorites with San Francisco (-2), Oakland (-3), New England (-5.5) and New Orleans (-1) all managing to cover the spread. Dallas was the only inter-Conference favorite to come up short but the overall record for the favs has moved into the black (16-15-3 ATS) and with three matchups on tap for Week 9 it's worth noting.
Look for value this week on Chicago (-2.5), the New York Jets (-4) and Philadelphia (-2.5) to keep the "Non-Con" hot streak alive.
Good luck with your picks.
