One full week of pro football is in the books and most people in the sports betting scene can all agree on one thing: 60 minutes of the regular season has taught us more about each team than 240 minutes of preseason football ever could.
It's a pretty common sentiment at this time every year, having finally seen the starters play through different situations against other starters, not second and third team backups. Whether you are up a few bucks from your sportsbook, or down as we head into Week 2, it's worth highlighting a few key points for some of the teams to help with this week's selections.
CHARGE THE CHARGERS
San Diego (0-1) was 20th against the rush last year but against top 10 rushing teams the Chargers allowed 133 yards per game. Two of their three worst games against the run were in Weeks 2 and 3, both at home, and Jacksonville, who is at San Diego this week, was 10th in rushing.
With Maurice Jones-Drew in the backfield, it's pretty obvious what the Jaguars gameplan will be for Sunday.
NEW MEADOWLANDS; OLD FOES
2010 marks the fifth straight year that New England's first road game of the season will be against the New York Jets.
Results from last year: 16-9 Jets win
Results from previous three years: 3-0 SU/ATS record for the Patriots
Which version of the Patriots do you think this year's edition more closely resembles?
SUNDAY NIGHT “MANNING” BOWL
The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) have not lost back-to-back games to start a season since 1988.
The New York Football Giants (1-0) have not lost in the month of September since Week 2, 2007. Tom Coughlin's crew is 9-0 straight-up and 7-2 against the spread since then.
INSIDER TRADING
The Broncos may have a good idea for what the Seahawks are going to throw at them this week. Seattle's offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was offensive assistant in Denver from 2006-08 before joining Seattle in 2010.
It's also worth noting that Denver has a 10-year straight-up winning streak intact for home openers (7-2-1 ATS), but the Broncos are just 4-19-1 ATS the past four years overall as a home favorite.
The lines have started to settle as injury reports are released.
