NFL Games of the Year Too early to bet football? …not at all.

It may only be spring practice time in the NFL but training camp and preseason will creep up on unsuspecting bettors. In fact, at the local bookstore, we even noticed some football season preview guides for sale already.

NFL regular season Week 1 betting lines have already been released by online sportsbooks, but what has caught our eye is SPORTSBETTING.com ’s NFL Games Of The Year prop betting options.

Predicting what will be Games of the Year is tough, just ask the Monday Night Football crew. A game featuring two teams that might’ve been a marquee matchup last year could be completely meaningless a year later—for all we know, the Detroit Lions could be the 2009 NFC Central regular season champions a year removed from going 0-16…ok, that’s crazy talk but you get the point.

Nevertheless, let’s pull out the crystal ball and look at a pair of Games of the Year offered on the betting board right now:

The Sunday Nighter in Week 2 (September 20) features a good old NFC East rivalry as the New York Giants head to the new Cowboys Stadium to play Dallas. The Giants are listed as a +2.5 underdog.

In Dallas’ last 20 home games against the New York Giants, they are 12-7-1 against the spread, but this will be their first regular season game in their new billion-dollar stadium.

The Giants have been marginally successful the first month of the regular season going 11-9 ATS in their last 20 September games, but more recently are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in September.

The Cowboys seem to get off to better starts going 15-5 SU and 13-7 ATS in their last 20 games during September.

Vikings vs. Packers
Rumors continue to circulate about Brett Favre landing in Minnesota to play for the Vikings.

Fuel was further added to the fire when ESPN reported that the Favre family was seeking accommodations in the Green Bay, Wisconsin area during the same weekend (November 1, 2009) as a Minnesota Vikings-Green Bay Packers game.

Is it just a coincidence? Would you spend a weekend in early-November in Wisconsin?

Regardless if Favre actually dons the purple jersey, the Vikings @ Packers on the frozen Lambeau tundra in Week 8 should still be intriguing.

As it stands, the Packers are favored by a field goal.

The Vikings have struggled in their last 20 road games, going 8-10-2 ATS while the Packers have gone 11-8-1 ATS in their last 20 at home.

While Minnesota has struggled on Lambeau Field its last 20 games, going 7-13 straight up, they are marginally profitable, going 11-9 ATS during the same time and more recently, they have been very profitable, sporting a 7-2 ATS mark in their last nine visits.

But make a note if you are going to bet this game early… in their last 20 games as an underdog of 4-points or less, the Vikes have struggled mightily, going 4-16 straight up and only 6-12-2 against the spread.

Some say the offseason is too long in the National Football League so you can bridge the gap with early Week 1 lines and Game of the Year betting at SPORTSBETTING.com

Have a good weekend.
