The Miami Dolphins are quickly becoming the laughing stock of the NFL. They have yet to win a game, they have a lame duck coach, and they have no signs of hope, besides Andrew Luck. This week when they take on the New York Giants, it seems like the Dolphins will go to 0-7 on the season.
The opening line for this game has the home team New York Giants at 10 point favorites. As expected the early betting money is on the Giants as 83% of the betting public are on the chalk in this match up. Although the betting public is on the Giants the line has moved to nine points in many offshore outlets. The reason for this move is because the smart money is on the Dolphins. The smart money overloaded the books and forced the oddsmakers to drop the line.
The Giants come into this game off a bye week, but so far this season, playing a game after a bye week does not always equate to winning. The Giants have also been known to lay down to bad teams at home and with the New England Patriots on deck, they could be looking right past the Dolphins.
In fact the Giants are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games against a team with a losing road record and 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 games as a home favorite. The Giants do not respond well after a bye week as they are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a bye week. The Dolphins need a win and will be playing with motivation.
They lost an embarrassing game to the Denver Broncos and now on the road in a game they are expected to lose, they will have no pressure. This is a chance for them to respond. Miami placed Sage Rosenfels on the reserve-non-football illness list and signed J.P. Losman, who last completed a pass in 2008, because of an injury to Matt Moore. Regardless of the injury, Moore will likely play, because he lost his job in Carolina and does not want to do that again.
The Dolphins respond well in this spot. The Dolphins are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games against a team with a winning home record and will play this game closer than the experts think.
