While 'retro' is in for the kids these days, 'retro' Interconference NFL matchups from 2003 will not be welcome by players. However, it is does touch on an interesting twist of fate thus far in 2007. With no clear line between the Ravens and NINERS, the Jets and GIANTS, or the Seahawks and STEELERS, the biggest matchup to test this week's historical trends will again be the GREEN BAY PACKERS attempt to turn the tide for the third time this year. Busting the trend ATS at Philadelphia (0-3 ATS over the last three until Opening Day) and again at Minnesota (1-5 ATS over the last three seasons until last week), The Packers will welcome the sight of the struggling Chicago Bears, who have gone 3-0 ATS in their last three matchups in Green Bay; the Bears outscoring the Pack by over 16+ points, including the now legendary 26-0 wallop on Opening Day 2006. While the ADVANTAGE is the Bears, 'Revenge!' may just be the 'air in the tonight'.
Barely avoiding a shut out at the hands of the Bucs, the Carolina Panthers, who have gone 5-0 SU and 5-0 ATS in New Orleans since John Fox's arrival will look to rediscover their winning ways; having allowed only 12 points per game to the SAINTS during the run, Carr, who only powered out 155 passing yards last week, may only need a few big plays here; however, going 23 for 27 for 207 yards in their last matchup in New Orleans, Delhomme's return would be a welcome sight.
ADVANTAGE PANTHERS
With its defense grinding out a hard fought fight versus the Steelers, Whisenhunt will look to take advantage of Warner's knowledge of the ST. LOUIS RAMS and use Leinart's command and James' 115 rushing yards per game the keys to victory in 2006 to direct them to another victory. For under Dennis Green, the Cardinals, who have been a Dog by an average of 8+ points in their last three matchups in St. Louis have gone 3-0 ATS, including two big SU victories in their last two by an average of 12 points on over 35 points per game. The real question mark is whether the Cardinals D that held the Steelers Parker to 37 yards rushing on Sunday has enough strength for a 60 minute effort.
