Setback for Online Gaming Legislation in New Jersey

The office of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has recently announced that the online gaming bill passed by the New Jersey legislature has been vetoed.

This represents a major setback to online gaming legislation in the state of New Jersey. New Jersey's legislature was the first state to actually pass online gaming legislation, so its supporters are quite disappointed that they weren't able to get the legislation past the Governor's office.

While supporters continue to have high hopes for their ability to eventually tweak legislation into a form that would be acceptable to the state's Governor, this latest development does draw into question whether or not New Jersey will be able to manage to be the first state to enact online gaming legislation. After its defeat in New Jersey, Iowa seems to be the present front-runner, with California, Florida, and Nevada also pursuing legislation.

If Iowa continues on the track it is on, New Jersey legislators will have to move fast if they want to be the first state to enact the type of legislation envisioned.
