Gary Kaplan, founder of the internet and telephone-based gambling operation known as BetOnSports has entered guilty pleas and agreed to forfeit $43.7 million to the US government as part of a plea agreement.

While Wheretobet.com does not condone the (now former) business practices of BetOnSports, nor the behavior of Mr. Kaplan, we do posit that the action and operation of US government prosecutors in this case is nothing short of extortion, and is little more than a mafia protection racket operating under color of law.

The hypocrisy and sanctimonious posturing of government agents is sickening, to wit:

'Gary Kaplan made millions of dollars by making it too easy for people to gamble away their hard-earned money without having to leave their homes. Today's guilty plea should have a lasting effect because Kaplan was not only the founder of BetOnSports, he was also one of the pioneers of illegal online gambling.' -- FBI agent John Gillies

This of course does not address whether or not the US government's policy of prohibition of online gambling is protectionist, violates its own treaties and international agreements, is moral, or whether any government anywhere on the planet has any natural right to tell its own citizens how they can spend their lesiure time and money. The honest truth is that the federal mafia was not getting their cut of the action, which was what the really deemed to be distasteful.

US citizens and residents should see the acts and actions of their government for what they really are: nothing more than a money grab by any means necessary.
